When I am visiting a new area, I'd like to explore nice restaurants around. Normally I would go to rating websites like citysearch.com and look for top-rated places before I put up my GPS and enter the address. This obviously requires a little bit planning ahead of time especially for people who don't have handy iphones or blackberries. Why not, therefore, provide rating services in GPS that could offer useful guides to (a)lazy people who don't like to plan and (b)people who are already on the road?

I agree. GPS should be equipped with more functions. Those functions should not only include restaurants, but also other attractions. May be the local businesses should have their surveys done on the GPS website.
I think the majority of people traveling will opt for a familiar chain-restaurant over a local place if they're picking from the GPS.
If you're a connoisseur, you'll probably travel with your Michelin book already. But to me, 'highly rated' restaurants are always expensive and seldom worth the money.
Maybe a mom-and-pop ethnic place would be the best option, but they wouldn't pay Garmin for the ad.
