There are two problems with the current way that fruit are labeled in a supermarket.
1) They are not always marked, and the cashier may not know the difference between a rome and a red delicious apple which leads to wrong prices being charged.
2) When they are labeled, they use those annoying little labels that are not always wasy to get off the fruit, and I have even been known to eat one of two labels because I did not see them on the fruit.
Therefore using modern printing technology and edible food dyes it should be fairly easy to generate UPC codes on fruits when they are processed which in bulk should be cheaper than printing and attaching the current papar labels now in use.

Food is about more than sustainence convenience. It is about aesthetic; I don't want labels printed on my food!
