burglar-proof cash register | |||||||||||||||||
How mant times have we seen on TV, robbers point a gun at the conveneient store clerk and making away with the day's cash? My idea is to have a cash register that incorporates stun gun/ tasers on all sides of the cash register, except on the clerk's side. At any potential hold up in the store, the bad guys are usually on the other side. In such situations, when they demand the clerk to open the register, the clerk can press the stun gun/ taser button on the register that incapacitates anyone within a 5 meter area (except on the clerk's side). In case the bad guy demands that the clerk unlock the register and get away while he can loot the cash, maybe we can incorporate a delay system where after the clerk opens the register, a timer goes off that shoots an electric charge all around within 5/10 seconds. This would again incapacitate the robber. And it would also have an alarm that automatically notifies the nearest police station. I am sure such a system can save lives, money and most importatntly put away the dirt bags where they belong. In prison. Any comments would be welcome.

I doubt any sensible clerk would put his/her life in danger for the contents of a cash register. Or that any customers near the cash register would appreciate being knocked out if some guy pulled a gun.
stunguns work with contact, at 2 points. shooting an electric current through the air more than a couple inches will require thousands of volts, and be extremely dangerous. if the system is strong enough to reach the robber at 3 feet, then if he happens to be leaning over the counter and only a few inches away, the shock kills him instantly. i foresee lots of lawsuits. also an electrical arc is non-directional, it will go to the path of least resistance, no matter what direction it is from the register, which will almost definitely be the clerk standing right next to it, or actually any metal frame, product rack, electrical wiring, anything, built into the counter it sits on.
Thats a huge lawsuit waiting to happen. Kids run the 7-11, an if Johnny boy accidently hits the wrong button, he could end up shocking poor old Granny and her 2yo grandson in the worst ways. Plus, most robbers are aware of the stores, and stake them out. Such an anti-theft deterrent would be common knowledge, and they would know its comming, and would just stand back and let it go off, then approach the register, pistol whip the clerk, and take the money anyways.
Stores would rather have them steal 200 bucks then get into an accidental suit and pay out 2,000 instead.
