Adjustable Head Lights | |||||||||||||||||
Why not have cars that have mult level adjustable head lights. Currently we only have 2 options, bright and standard. But it would be better, since conditions are not so two fold, if the head lights could be manually adjusted from within the car. Like the way you can adjust the brightness of your consul, let it also adjust the brightness of your headlights. That way, in the city, your not hitting everyone so hard with your LEDs when you dont need them, and in the country you can light up half the world if needed. Snow, Rain, it is all different, and you would have the ability to refine how much light you, individually, need.

Aftermarket lighting has been around for years to provide this service. I had some on my 1972 AMC Gremlin. I had to install a bigger alternator to run 'em, but, I could see for a long way on rural roads.
Turns out, tho', that such lighting is kind of illegal in this state for on-road use these days.
Why would they make it illegal on headlights? I can see not having red or blue lights, but man, adjusting brightness just to drive down the road safely and that gets illegal?
I don't see why you think two positions is wrong?--where there are other cars nearby, you use dim and when there aren't, you use as bright as all get-out.
Maybe you're saying that brights should be brighter. Of course we know that brighter costs more and like Hyenuf said, you'll be sucking too much power at some point. So maybe that's why you want more positions on the switch.
I live in the country and I've hit a deer at night, so I personally do think that brights should be brighter. But if I had brighter, I'd never use the positions in between.
I don't get your comment on LED's--I'm pretty sure that there aren't any LED headlights yet--for high bright, it's just hard to beat Halogen or HID.
LED headlights have been around for years. You live in the country, so you probibly would'nt of seen them. They come standard on some high end Audi's and Lexus'. Or you can buy them as an upgrade. http://www.treehugger.com/files/2006/10/led_headlights.php
But yeah, bright could be brighter, dim could be dimmer, pending the situation. Driving through downtown orlando, and i do have silverstar headlights, i know im blinding others when the cities already got enough lights going on to keep the road lite, i wanna be nice and turn em down. But if im country side, i wanna see everthing. It should be a standard to let us choose the conditions we want out lights to be at.
