ThingLocalizer | |||||||||||||||||
Where are my keys? Where did I put a certain tool. Etc. How often are we looking for 'things' (mostly in your house). Why not make a concept (eg. gulabel ed = global unique label) 'ThingLocalizer' of 'Thingalizer'. You just say to the thing 'my keys' and it localizes your keys. Eg. by an arrow of the direction, or a light burning lighter or softer when you move towards it or not. The technology to be use? I don't know:- You should be able to 'tag' the thing (give it an unique id)- A receiver must be able to detect its position- May be use a chemical and spray it on the thing? (but how to identify other things)- Or clip a little identifier / sender on it? Wifi antenna?- Mini GPS for usage in homes? Can help avoiding forgetting thing in public transport as well: when your distance to the thing gets more than eg 5 meter, it starts bleeping: "You forget me!" (loosing things in public transportation happens often to me...) Etc. How has fresh inspiration to enhance the idea of the thingalizer? Regards, iwanjka, spirilogic member

I typed 'key finder' into google and got lots of hits. Some you whistle or clap and the keys hear it and beep back at you: http://yoospot.stores.yahoo.net/sonickeyfinder.html
others are RF based. http://www.findonefindall.com/index.htm
These just seem like more trouble than their worth to me. I just keep my keys in my pocket and I don't have problem. I know that janitors keep them on those retractable things to keep from losing them.
Thank you for comments... those keyfinder make my 'bunch' of keys even bigger. Battery goes low, etc. In addition: I want ultimately 'all' my things indexed. Just type:"where is book with title xxx', and the system gives the location. So the 'marker' thing which you put upon the thing must be very little, preferably unvisible, etc. In addition the 'index' process must be very easy, when it takes one hour per thing to index it won't work. Maybe too impossible, we'll see. I like the idea!
so you want your system to actually be integrated to your computer and displayed on a map?--that's definitely more complex than the key-finders. It sounds like a nice but difficult idea.
I'm sure it could be done now, but the size of the transponders and the need to power them are disadvantages that might not be surmountable at this time.
Possibly they could have solar cells and recharagable batteries, but keys spend lots of time in the dark.
