Lobbyists | |||||||||||||||||
Lobbying is the practice of influencing decisions made by a government. It includes all attempts to influence legislators and government officials, whether by other legislators, constituents or organized groups. Special interest groups have always been on the forefront of our government influencing our elected leaders to vote for their interests. Most of the time or lets say the majority of the time, their interest will only benefit a few Billionaires instead of the average American. The Constitution of the United States mentions We The People. Not Us The Corporations. We as a nation should become more involved in the political arena this way we won't get cheated like the previous administration cheated us. We need to write Congress more often and vote. It seems to me that Americans are much more interested in the Superbowl or American Idle than our government. Also the media will bring up Michael Jackson, or Britney Spears before bringing up the topic of the Unpatriotic Patriot Act which our former president The Decider signed into law.

Although the public mechanisms are there the public interest is not. Media are very much under the thumbs of the same people that influence the legislators. That would have to change and unfortunately that seems unlikely.
I agree that people should vote and be more participative in government with letter/email writing, etc. But that doesn't mean I'm against lobbying or interest groups.
I'm a member of the pilot's organization AOPA and they pay money to keep airports from closing. My brother is a veteran and the American Legion keeps their issues in the view-finder. I could be AARP someday. I mostly agree that our freedoms are being taken, so I'm mostly pleased that the ACLU is out there working. My Dad is a Farm Bureau member. The point is, these organizations are made up of people. People that want something--mostly they want money--which I don't care for, but others want only freedom to continue doing what they like, making their own decisions.
Whenever a government makes a law, it takes someone's freedom away. There is no law that can give freedom.
