Typing text/email messages on a cellphone can be a pain is something we all know including Blackberries. So how about node at the bottom of the phone that flashes a lazer hologram keyboard that spreads out on, say... a desk, a restuarant table or any flat surface. So you have your virtual qwerty keyborad and as you press any key, the circuit for that key breaks and the corresponding alphabet/ command gets loaded on the message box.

But keeping an eye on your message in that tiny screen might be a problem. So I suggest a HUD (Heads Up Display) via a tiny projector on top of the phone that flashes the message on a wall close to you or the blank monitor on your desk or even the table itself. The HUD tech has been in existence in the car industry for years now and is just a matter of adapting the tech for phone usage.

I agree the keyboard is too small on most mobiles, but I can't think of any situation or other product where a projected image/hologram can provide feedback when you touch it, so I'm not seeing how this is do-able.

The projector phone is already out there. It uses lots of batteries, though.

The projected virtual keyboard for blackberries already exists too. Still, good thinking.
