Cars should be able to communicate with all gas pumps electronically while filling gas. So while you are dispensing gas into your car, a barcode reader near the dispenser handle should beep your unique barcode near the gas cap. The barcode could contain your credit card and other relevant information and it automatically charges the card once the transation is done. And maybe the pump can also facilitate the option to punch in the PIN for added safety. And when the dispenser is placed back in the pump, it would produce a reciept with the transaction details. What say?

I think the idea is good, but I think any visual representation of your credit card number is a risk for identity theft. Also, I don't use the same method to pay for gas every time, so that would limit me.

I like this idea. I had thought about using this method for electric car chargers, but it would work with gas cars too. However, an electric car would use a plug, so connecting to an on-board computer would be easy. That would eliminate the need for a barcode reader.

That's a fantastic Idea of time saving, But keeping the identity & credit card info vulnerability , we can use Bio metric along a RFID patch to make it more secure & very ease of use ( no contacts or line of sight scanning ) .

What I failed to communicate effectively is that the barcode would be inside the gas cap. And yes the safety concern is ever present and hence the barcode should allow only gas transactions. The bio metric and RFID patch would make it really secure.

Tracking ID is a good idea, but barcodes on a car would easily get too messy to read. I'm guessing something more along the lines of an RFID tag would do the trick... but this has to be integrated into the car in a way that would make it difficult for someone to steal it.
