How about a stand alone roof top home solar swamp cooler? 110 volts or mayby 12volt? Sounds reasonable to me... You would save energy mayby can run with backup storage battery for night time use. Power from the sun...your only going to use it when it's hot anyway, right? Just a thought :)

I think this could be good, but how do you get the cooling into the house without humidifying the air? Pepindia spoke of a two-stage swamp cooler once. I think something like that would be good.
They exist, 120V units anyways. They are ducted into the home, wand work best where humidity is naturally low.
