Most of the PCI cards have the green and red leds whichare located at the back of the Desktop pc. Why not have aadditional socket on the front panel of the desktop for these lan leds. The pci lan card can have a additonal socket so that the front panel leds could be connected. This will make the work of the net work engineer much easier. Instead of pulling out the desktop pc to have a look the leds is a cumbersome job.

Added cost mostly. Plus the various chipsets use/connect the LEDs differently, but they could be standardized.
I did it myself once. It served little utility, I just did it because I could.
