I can't copy here the full idea. It is on my wiki page at: MobileSocialSoftware. Here I leave just the list of applications:

1. Where are my friends? You'd like to know where your friends are having fun today (or even this hour). The advantage of mobile technology here is that the information is updated in real time - so that people changing bars can find each other.

2. What club is the most popular today?

3. Who is here? People can leave some advertised information about them (it might be anonymous), which would be sent to everybody who is in the same bar as they.

4. Chat with someone in the bar. After choosing some advertisement you could exchange messages with the person owning it. The advantage over traditional online chat is that you know this person is in the same bar as you.

5. What is the music there (in real time)?

6. Bar owners could use this system for advertising happy hours etc.

7. Who goes to the same clubs as I? The application could instantly identify people that like the same places as you.

Can Cybiko do that? Google for cybiko.

mr2560, Nov 16 2003

Cybiko would be something else to carry around (people tend to have mobile phones to beging with). Cybiko is more or less a childs toy anyway.

classicsat, Nov 20 2003

Ok, so what if it's a toy if it worked?

How about rather than tiny PDAs for phones,a phone application for PDA's, along withan application including the features mentione in this idea?

Number 4 is also known as 'toothing'. Do a web search to learn more.

WhoAt is built for exactly this purpose (disclaimer - I'm one of the founders). Set your location via whatever platform makes sense: a mobile phone if you're in a bar, your laptop while at Starbucks, etc. Then you can find out who's nearby, flirt, and find out what places are popular with the people you want to meet.
