I have seen some grocery stores offering delivery, but it seems order for pickup could entice people that feel that delivery is too much of a luxury, and do not like the added fees. The grocery store is not a pleasant experience for most of us and improvements would be welcome.
Online ordering offers many clear advantages. Shopping lists do not need to be completed in one sitting, and can easily be saved to repeat. The store can notify customers that their favorite items are on sale and suggest complimentary items. Also, the grocery store can be reduced to a warehouse with no money spent on displays or wasted space.
This might appeal to men more since we prefer to get things and go, but the female gathering instincts could be appeased by placing a high-focus on the website store-browsing experience. Especially with added tools for budget-shopping and healthy meal planning.

Although package items might be feasible shopping for fresh fruit and vegetables requires individual items to be selected carefully.
