Perpetual Pendulum | |||||||||||||||||
Use a drum type wind turbine below a pendulum.When the pendulum swings the turbine will rotate.The electricity produced can be used to keep the pendulum in perpetual motion.Interestingly the drum type turbine will rotate in the same direction in both the swings of the pendulnm.

Is this a plague of trolls?
Sand,Relaxe.Let us get this simple idea experimented to know what is what.
I get this funny highly uncomfortable feeling anytime somebody discovers an apparatus creating perpetual motion.
Sand,we can always resort to the time tested method of verifying a truth by conducting experiments,actual physical ones.But so far as thought experiments are concerned I feel the idea is not at all disputable.I would like to have some personal friendship with you,please email to antripathy@rediffmail.com if you feel like doing so.
A though experiment is fine.
When it comes to actual engineering, you have to realize that to get energy from one point or form to another, there are losses, usually because of friction, converting some energy to heat. Yes, friction can be reduced some, but it cannot be eliminated, and there has to be some point that the means of friction reduction costs more than the energy saved.
In general, any attempt to counter the basic law of entropy is destined to fail.
Entropy just says how energy can be transferred from high temperature or high pressure area to lower level areas and the experimental observations of less than 100% efficiency and slow spreading of disorder which is as good as saying that temp and pressure become uniform at every point in the long run.Same is true for the atmosphere which is allmost an ideal gas where if temp and pr. are uniform we have no chance of drawing energy from it as in such a condition there wo`nt be any wind to rotate a landfixed windturbine.However in case of a moving surface,like the roof surface of a moving car or the surface of an oscillating pendulum this law ceases to be forceful(in my openion) as high and low air pressures get built up on sides of these moving surfaces which actually move with certain relative velocity with respect to the ground surface of the earth and hence there should not be any problem of drawing energy from the atmosphere by employing a light or heavy moving surface with wind turbines of suitable designs installed on it.
