The electric dryer is one of the biggest power users in the home. During winter, most homes waste a lot of energy by throwing away heated and moist air, which is replaced by cold and dry air from outside. New homes should be designed such that the exhaust air ducting from the dryer has a valve that allows the home owner to choose between discharging to the outside, or recirculating the air to the inside to conserve the heat and humidity. The recirculation line would be provided by a good filter, and a pressure relief ducted to the outside (that would direct the air outside if the filter gets too clogged).

New homes are tight controlled environments, so it would have to be done with great care not to upset that environment.
Older homes are a little easier to get away with that.
Rather than releasing the very humid air into the house, it might be better to use a heat exchanger. Hmm, this just gave me an idea that I think I will post separately.
This is a fantastic idea for houses in the Mid-West area of the US, where it gets both cold and dry in the winter.
