For people who don’t have cars, or live a couple of blocks from the Laundromat, it’s a lot of trouble to push a shopping/laundry cart filled with bags and/or clothes down the road.
Why not have a shopping/laundry cart that works on the same mechanism as a small toy car. The wheels on the cart will be battery powered and controlled by a small remote. This remote will have a small joystick which allows the user to direct the cart forward/backward 360 degrees. This way the cart doesn’t have to be pushed and makes it easier to use for senior citizens, moms-to-be, and people with small children.

Although it's a nice idea it seems like a very expensive and troublesome alternative to a simple shopping cart which is not all that troublesome to push and store.
It wouldn't be all that expensive. It would run on the same technology as a small remote controlled toy car. This would be very helpful to senior citizens and people who would rather talk on the phone/text/hold other things in their hands while walking back from the laundromat with their carts. This isn't a grocery shopping cart which is found at stores, its a laundry cart as shown in this link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000095ZGJ
I agree that the problem is not a great one but this would make it so much easier for people who actually use their carts 2-3times a week.
Thanks for your comments!
If you've ever played with remote control cars, you know that steering them can be pretty tricky. It would be even trickier for elderly people who have never played video games. It would be easier to just have a motorized cart with handles on it that you hold and control directly.
They made them back in like 1985, it's called a Yugo.
