Hanging Home | |||||||||||||||||
Houses can be built from lightweight materials on a largearea platform hung from a sturdy bar supported by pillars on the ground so that it can be made to oscillate with small or large amplitudes and with large windows in the house to let in the cool breeze as the platform oscillates in the air there wo`nt be any need for fans and one can have a peaceful sleep in such a house with cradling comfort.

This is an amusing idea if one has no tendencies to get seasick. An enclosed structure that gives one's senses the orientation of up and down that moves in opposition to the built in verticality senses of the human ear can be very disturbing. It would have to move rather violently to generate a breeze and any strong windstorm might be, if anything, an exciting experience. And, of course, moving parts wear and over the lifetime of a house they have to be maintained. But these problems could probably be solved if the occupant would like this type of environment. Connections for water, electricity and communications, waste disposal, etc. would have to be taken into account.
I'm not sure what the advantage to this would be. If the wind is blowing, you can always get a breeze in any house by just opening a window. I don't think rocking me to sleep would make up for all the problems it would cause. Motion sickness might be an issue. There would be the danger of people falling due to unexpected movements. In case you don't know, falls are the number one cause of serious injuries in the home. Objects would be prone to falling too. Dishes would slide off of tables. Books would fall off shelves. It would be like living on a boat at sea. There would also be some architectural challenges, like connecting the plumbing lines.
Sorry about duplicating some of sand's comments. We both posted at the same time.
I like the idea, but not for the reasons stated. A hanging house could be made with fewer and lighter weight materials. Most of the structure would be supported by tension, rather than compression. There is still the matter of a suitable framework from which to hang the house. Swinging in a breeze would cause problems with cooking and plumbing. Sudden movements can also cause people and objects to fall. It would have to be guyed.I believe there is a hanging tent on the market for extreme rock climbers. The tent is secured to the rock face at its apex.
May be good for occasional timepass for fun.If not a hanging home how about a large size rocking home with its bottom concavely curved so that it rocks on a large smooth cemented floor with various chosable speeds.
