Intelligent Home Alert system | |||||||||||||||||
Many of my friends had their basements flooded recently due to a broken subpump or a leaking water heater. If they had been alerted on time they could have acted promptly and mitigate the damage. So why not install a sensor that, upon contact with water, would send an email or text message to the home owner. Lot’s of money/hastle could be saved. This intelligent home application could then be extended to send alerts prompted by various things (smoke, break-in, etc.). Perhaps something similar already exists… If so let me know.

Water sensor alarms already exist ... http://www.specialtyalarms.com/site/1313932/page/470322 ... http://www.basementwatchdog.com/water_alarm.htm ... http://www.ideativeinc.com/leakfrog.cfm
Thanks for the links. However, unless I missed something, these are sound alarm systems, which is not going to help you if you are away from home. But if a system could email or text you, you might be able to act quicker and minimize the damage as opposed to waiting till you arrive home and heare the alarm.
