what if I want to "use" this idea? how about an "Interested" box for people who would like to pursue implementing it. We could have "industries" watching this website for ideas. It seems to me we are trying to put "good" ideas out there, basically for free, in hopes that they will be implemented. It would be nice to know if they are...and at least get credit for the idea.

What do you want, a medal?

I post my ideas completely anonymously. If you make a million on any of my ideas,do not believe anyone that claims to be "mr2560"and wants recognition!!!

If you want to get paid to daydream, get a job as a gatekeeper.

dear mr. number, I think you missed my point, certainly we may keep our anonymnity, I'm just thinking of a way for someone who wants to use it to be part of the process. The whole getting paid issue is another topic, the reason I included the person who originates the idea is that it would be nice to get to develop it with the person that uses it.

The level of originality displayed on this website is not that great. Put solar cells in the desert! I bet the inventor of the first solar cell, thought of that, 5 minutes after he considered the physics of generating electricity from sunlight.

but the snappy coments are 100% original

Because I cross link ideas between here and my personal website where I can post photos, videos and software, I see the traffic that comes to my site and what company they are with. After one of my first few posts, 7 different Fortune 100 or 500 companies came to my site. Are these WhyNot members who just happened to be surfing while at work, or are these corporations fishing for cheap ideas? While all ideas are not Einsteinic (yes that is a new word for the public domain, no charge) many ideas are a good springboard to enhanced versions of them. BOTTOM LINE: If you want to share your ideas, share only those you don't ever want to pursue yourself or make any money on, like safety ideas, laws we need, laws we don't need, any type of information, but if you have a hot idea and your closest friends sweat thinking about it, don't post it here. Go to a corporation and try and enter into a non-disclosure agreement, go to the Patents Office online and do a search, do normal close lipped invention type stuff. You can share your brain without sharing the best stuff from your brain. I have over 1200 ideas cataloged in various stages of development, but will just post my public domain information and information that I feel can save lives. Look at my contributions via my profile page and you'll have an idea. This is a good question and I am glad you brought this up. Little surprised to see the initial negative responses you received. My ideas on WhyNot: http://www.whynot.net/view_user?id=6347 Thanks, SS

Or you can just click on the bright red "SteeleS" that appears under his post. ;D

If we are talking about recognition it would be a shame, if we are not acknowledge d for the ideas we have posted here. But don't forget why we participate in why not, we are here to help and to share people our ideas so that it will help humanity as a whole to develop things to make our lives easy. Just picture out that you are a intrapreneur so that you won't be bothered that much.

Actually one can read your ideas and not quite 'understand' how you would like to develop or actualize them. This forum is good if you want to test the popularity of a concept. But as anyone who have ever wanted to 'start up' knows, so called VC or Venture Capitalist demand more than a well painted picture of a concept. They demand hard-to-copy originality, prototypes, uniqueness of invention to mention but a few of the harder parts of actualizing an idea. Ideas or concepts for that matter, are as viable as they are followed up. We may have the similar sounding ideas about a car, but when closer attention is paid, they may greatly differ if not look totally different. If you are afraid of an obviously easy idea to copy, try to patent it - a not so simple process as it is made to look. Your application may actually be rejected if it is suspected that similar or earlier versions of the same have already been submitted! If you feel you have a killer idea though, you can always employ the services of a legal specialist who can then take up the matter. Do NOT proceed further only by yourself. Common sense also dictates that you need to start this process BEFORE you present anything to anyone for funding! That's why you see so many looking devices looking similar yet all have right to the design, although the patent may 'only' belong to one party. Legal mysteries but they are there. I wish all those who wish to take it to the next level to do so. I realise some of the ideas here are 'experiments' or 'leftovers' from serious thinking you people do. But if you want to truly do something, just do it. Nobody can steal your idea as long as you can 'see' your product in your mind's eye. They may come up with a similar gadget, but it may never be like yours.
