(hypothetically), I am 7 years old and my puppy just wandered away from the house. I can't find him anywhere. He doesn't really know to come to his name yet. Well, we have the solution for you, on the puppies collar is a transmitter, you have a proximity locator; wandering around to get close, with a distinctive beep the closer you get. There happens to be an activator switch which calls the transmitter to transmit. Also a small microphone whereby you can hear the puppy and hear the sounds around him. You can also speak to him to reassure him. This could be expanded to relate to a GPS finder and actually locate the collar. on street maps etc.

Great idea. This could be combined with the microchip that can be injected into the dog for scanning. With the chip, it would be impossible for it to get separated from the dog (like a collar).
The collar could as well have a voice-transmitter thatallowed the collar to "speak" once activated, like "MYName's Fluffy and I'm lost. My mommy is looking for me."
I once lost my pup in a crowded parking lot between carsand whist i ran one way, she ran the other. Had i beenable to make her collar "YELL" "beep" or "talk", i would have been able to find her straight off.
A directional transmitter or a GPS were it able to beminiaturized to doggie-lo-jak proportions could work fine, just its gotta shrink a bit... and be cost-realistic.
cool.. your pet won't get lost anymore.. you're sure that you will be able to locate him even if your pet hides in the dark.. ;P
