Why not have a mirror that gives a driver a view of what's coming from the opposite direction when making a turn? Many drivers fail to look both ways when turning onto 1-way roads and are unaware of pedestrians who may be walking in front of them from the opposite direction. Place this mirror at the top of the interior door panel right below the window on either side of the car. It wouldn't give a driver a crystal clear view, but it should pick up pedestrian movement that may spur the driver to look the other way.

Ultrasound front corner sensors typically used as parking aid will help in this. However there detection range is short (max 2 metres). The range can be increased but then whenever you drive is heavy traffic and narrow streets the sensor keeps bleeping.
