rear/side view mirrors | |||||||||||||||||
Current side view mirrors are small and convex to provide a wide angle of view.Cars appear small until are very close and particularly if they are speeding may appear very suddenly -potentially a dangerous situation .I suggest a regular mirror that is split into at a slight angle and provides a wide angle of reflection .

I don't understand this idea.
Do you mean "split in two at a slight angle"? If so, wouldn't that produce a blind spot?
What about two "wing" style mirrors that would mount on each side of the car's regular factory installed mirror. This way the factory mirror's dimming function is not disrupted. Nor are built-in indicators of temperature or direction. These "wing" mirrors would be angled to provide nearly 180 degrees of vision around the rear and sides of the car.
The solution might be to have a flat side mirror whose outer edge is convex. Other cars nearby would be seen regular size as in a regular mirror while the outer portion would let you know something else is there. I thought of this years ago, then saw it on a BMW of at least a decade ago, with a black line on the mirror separating the flat and convex portions. It would be a more expensive mirror to manuracture, but still makes sense. I haven't seen one recently (but I don't drive a BMW).
