WhyNot glasses/goggles with display connected to your cell phones. Today you can buy cell phones with MP3 players and download music via the network. With "MobileVison" goggles you can watch videos, movies, news, play video games, etc. You can even watch 3D video as well.

A few years ago 3D goggles were a big craze when VPL was a hot company and Virtual Reality and SGI were the buzz words. All that technology is still around somewhere eating dust -- only now it can be done very cheaply. This should make a cool toy for Sharper Image.

Take it a step further with immersive video viewing technology. We have immersive viewing filming technology as evidenced by the 360° views of homes and what not on the web. However, the viewing is still unfortunately non-immersive despite all the information being there for immersive viewing.

The goggles need to wrap around so that the view is immersive even to the periphery and it needs to incoporate gyroscopes so that head movement is registered and the view is adjusted accordingly in realtime. So, even though you are sitting on your couch, you may be under the distinct impression that you underwater just off the great barrier reef watching various fish regardless of which way you turn your head. Or you may be touring the Smithsonian (because you subscribed to it), or any museum/plant operation/nature preserve/etc.

Let's even get some cameras on other planets or even create a 360° telescope so anyone can watch any segment of the sky for anything (but block views back to earth for privacy reasons). We could tour/view anywhere without the travel. This would be great for education and would drastically reduce their liability (for field trips) while at the same time greatly enhancing the selection of places they could tour.

I like one of those ... ala Mission Impossible, Terminator, Tomb Raider etc. I think the technology is there, but the problem is the power source/supply. Give it a few more years. When we have real advancement in battery technology then this would all become a reality, I for one is keeping my fingers crossed.
