In researching my family tree, I have developed an interactive, online family compendium that has allowed me to find/meet a dozen new relations that I was unaware of, from three different countries, so far. We've found it very enjoyable to share info while creating a common platform that will allow our future generations to read about and add to our family histories. It has been far easier than for each person to construct their own family tree. By having it on a website and with optional privacy/password accessibilty, family members from far and wide can participate. After all, the nature of the info is really only of value to members of the family and not for public benefit per se.
Feel free to check out what I've built to date. I will provide anyone who asks with the four basic files to start their own modest 'BlueGenes' Family Tree site for free. I believe sharing and building links between and among family members is very beneficial, useful and interesting, especially for those 'down the road'.
The site I've built has over 500 family members from all eight line of my and my wife's families going back to about 1600 when the French first settled in North America. We have both French-Canadian and Welsh ancestry. Feel free to check it out and contact me if interested - www3.telus.net/morgfam
