How about a voicemail system which allows the phone to ring say 4 times before routing to voicemail between 7am and 7pm. During the night the phone would route directly to voicemail without ringing. No more forgetting to switch the ringer on or off.

Good idea..I came up with a 'poor man's solution'. My Telco offers a service called 'Forward when no answer', which forwards the call to any number I pre-assign after about several rings. The number I pre-assign is my cell phone number, which offers free voice mailbox...

I also use the service called 'Forward when busy', which forwards the call to the same number if the line is busy...

This idea is one of the first we describe in our Why Not? book. Along with voicemail on a timer, we add the idea of the emergency ring through. Imagine the following voicemail recording: "Hello, you've reached Sam. I don't currently wish to be disturbed right now, but if this is an emergency hit 0 and my phone will ring. I'll be might ticked so it better be good."
