Mailbox design reduces damage | |||||||||||||||||
Mailbox vandalism is a concern for rural homeowners. Most solutions focus on fortifying existing design rather than looking at the basic shape. My design change would be to go from the current “barn shape” to a triangular cross section when faced from the front. A sloping edge would deflect the force of a blow from a baseball bat far better than the existing vertical side. There would continue to be ample width for magazines and other flat packages in the bottom of a triangle. Small parcels could still be placed in the middle of the triangle.
