Currently, the laser pointer only allows the presenter to show a tiny point on the screen. That pin-sized spot is not enough for the audience to see clearly, especially when the presenter moves around.

How about a laser pointer that leaves its marking a little longer, so that the presenter can do underlining, circling or the 'John Madden' diagram? The marking can be turned off by the presenter's pressing a switch on the pointer, or turn off by itself after, say 5 seconds. The highlighting can even stay on until the next slide.

Doesn't this sound like the old way of using an overhead projector with a marker??? Funny that technologies give us Powerpoint on one hand, but takes away the power for the presenter on the other hand.

I was going to say this can't work because obviously there is nothing on the screen to glow once the laser light spot has moved on. However, the way to make this work would be for the laser spot position to be fed back into the presentation software to draw the line IN THE PRESENTATION, then it would be projected onto the screen.

It could be integrated into the laser pointer / mouse combo, as the problem with both of them would involve tracking the position of the pointer gadget in 3-D space as the presenter moves around.

It would take a bit more of optics complexity to do a circle, a line is easier.

Everytime I am scared when my professors are usinglaser pointers in the class. Yes, I am that kind of personthat believe the prof will accidentally point the pointer towards my eyes and I get blinded.

Would it be possible to replace the laser source asother light source and replace the plain white screen with something coated that it will 'light up' by the light source?
