Colored Salt | |||||||||||||||||
Since my eyes are failing me, I can't see how much salt is being put on my food. Why not dye salt some color that can be seen as you shake it.

Kids like purple and green ketchup. This could be the adult version for salt. What color would you recommend? Black/Grey is taken by pepper. What about red? Then you could call it "Red Sea Salt."
Cute idea! I sometimes put the salt in my hand first, then broadcast it onto the food. Gives me a little more control, anyway.
It is already coloured. The colour is white...
white actually is not a color...Red sea salt sounds great!!!
Salt is a pretty simple chemical, it would have to be mixed with something to still taste like salt. However, if you like mineral salts on your food, it should be easy :)
This would be similar to the smell they put in propane.
It should really be called "Red See Salt."
If you like to use black pepper with your salt, you can just mix the two up in one shaker. Then it is easy to see what you sprinkle.
How about Blue? Salt used to feed animals comes in that colour.
There are existing solutions to this problem (the pepper + salt comes close). One can find many different varieties of seasoned salts in the store today. Many of these are coloured. Pick one that you like!
For those that are really interested, there are several naturally occuring colored salts: red, green, pink and grey sea salts. Black, purple and almost-neon-pink rock salts...
The only serious problem with this idea is that table salt dissolves so quickly on moist foods that you would not really be able to disern how much salt you've added anyway; it would just be an odd-colored (and unappetizing?) smudge on your dinner.
I personaly think making colored salt is the right thing to do! I was sitting at the table with my parents eating potatoes when this accured! I noticed i couldnt see any salt coming out of the shaker but it was there i just couldnt see it! So now the problem is "what color." Although the green and purple ketchup sold ALOT of parents thought it was gross! Therefor I think that making the salt a dark yellow color would sell! PLEASE take this into consideration!
I saw some colored salt somewhere... some fancy gourmet store. I think they used it on fancy beverages but I'm not sure.
This idea is so funny.But the salt would change the flavor if it be dyed.
Many food colorings do not affect the flavor. It's just a matter of surviving mixture into food.
Already been done. See Salt in 5 Colors
