Plenty DVD Players can play MP3s, but only from CDs. It has something to do with their firmware. It would be nice to have a cheap DVD player that can play MP3s both from CDs as well as from DVD disks. This way one can load around 1400 songs per DVD.

That would be nice. And I predict Apex will have one on the market within 90 days.

Just read that the Sony new “Blu-ray” DVD recorder released in Japan earlier this year will store around 27GB per side. If they would allow those players to read MP3s one could pack approx. 8,000 songs per DVD. Imagine having such a player in your house or in your car.

I just boyught the RSQ all in one 505 player, hoping it might play mp3 from DVD.

It didn't work, but since I just burned 350 songs to a disk, I decided for kicks to try the disk in my yamakawa dvd-218

It worked.

RSQ = 250 US DollarsYamakawa = 28 US Dollars.

Why me?

How often do you play all the songs on all the CDs you have at home or in your car?

This raises the second question of utilization factor. Who really needs such memory capacity for a music player considering that most songs have an average track length of 4min 30sec. This, if my early days arithmetics is still correct translates to 13 songs per hour which gives about 320 songs per day.

You would need 4.375 days to play your MP3 disc with 1400 songs. But hold on a second, this time does not include the time you need for bathing, eating and other specials that humans need time for.

Such a player would not be so useful to consumers. Having all this to deal with one would go through another hell to locate the different files on the disk and play the songs.

Keep it simple after all on average people listen to music for less than an hour a day.

i read the comment about the blu-ray, from sony, and i realized that i think some people are missing the point... not everyone, like me, for instance, wants to store 27GB of songs on a dvd, but i think it would be much more reasonable to use a dvd today,4.7 GB. i am waiting to get a mp3 dvd player for this reason. with 20GB of music it is stupid to burn more than 20 cds. i can definatley see where this will come in handy... but this does bring up new issue, why wouldnt you just get a mp3 player with a larger capacity rather than burning a dvd or blu-ray disc...???
