Why not have automated gas stations that do not require you to get out of your car. Simply pull up to the station and your cars' current gas type is identified and a robotic arm fills you up. Perhaps have all gas caps on the bottom of the car and the whole process can be completed in a jiffy Lube type setting.

The transfer of fuel is inherently a dangerous business. Automatic machinery cannot always be trusted to function perfectly. The possibility of a fatal conflagration for a minor convenience seems to me to be too dangerous to be adopted.
Unless you're planning on implementing this in a 0-gravity environment - maybe you should rethink the whole "Let's fill it up from the bottom" idea...
