Recently, I created a VHS tape from four different Camcorder tapes. Making additional copies of the VHS tape was, to say the least, tedious. Why not develop a single device that would replace your VCR, DVD player and DVD recorder. It would be about the same size as a VCR or DVD player. It would have two slots for VHS tapes so that you could record one VHS tape from another in the device. It would also have two DVD trays so that you could record one DVD from another in the device. In addition, it would have the capability to record a DVD from a VHS tape placed in the device (an easy way to convert our VHS tapes to DVDs), or record a VHS tape from a DVD placed in the device (for our diehard friends who hang on to their VCRs). Finally, it would have the jacks currently available on almost every VCR so that you could create VHS tapes or DVDs from your Camcorder recordings.

They've had dual deck VCRs for years, although they've been a niche item, so you probably never spotted them in the general marketplace.
There is component DVD recoders you can copy your tapes to DVD, sometimes via an HDD, meaning you could, in theory, roll several copies of a DVD off for family (I believe the use DVD-RAM though, and most DVD players won't play them).
I may have heard of buzz about a combo VCR/DVD recoreder box from on of the import companies.
Of course, none of thist equipment could be used to duplicate commercial DVDs or VHS tapes, there are protections in place to prevent that.
