I like this idea, but since it takes time to drive thru a grocery store, why not include some other conveniences that take about the same amount of time, but require you to wait, for instance, if you want fresh pizza or other fast foods, combine that with the grocery store, then order on the way in, pickup on the way out. Also, since film can be developed in 60 minutes or less, why not drop off the film in the beginning of the drivethru, and pick it up at the end. And how about 30 minute drycleaning, drop off your dirty stuff at the front of the drivethru grocery, pick it up on the way out. And last, why not include a carwash on the way out.

Theye have drive through groceries (not many, they are more like mom and pop corner stores), in the southern US. I believe in that concept, you presented your shopping list to the keeper, that they shopped, bagged, and put the groceries in the car.
I do apologize for having to vote against this idea. Although they do already exist, that's not why I voted against.
1) I think people have to start getting out of there cars. There is nothing wrong with walking around a bit to get things done. This just seems too lazy.
2) One reason automated grocery and drive-thru probably won't become a significant market is that by walking through the ailes most customers pick up items they don't need, and hadn't inteded on purchasing. This is a major increase in revenues for grocery stores, and I'm not only referring to the items which are right at the cash register.
Of course, you could have drive through grocery stores where you actually drive your car up and down the ailes, but look how many people crach grocery carts, cars would be a nightmare ;)
I think it's a fabulous idea and I've had it myself for years. When all you need are a few essentials and the kids are asleep in the car it's worth paying a little more.
Where I grew up in the California bay area, we had a small drive thru grocery store which I loved as a kid. Now that I'm a mom, the convenience of any drive-thru is wonderful. Sometimes I only need a few things and if there was a nearby drive thru, I could whip in and out and not have to plan 'another' trip to the huge grocery store where I'm challenged with too many cars, not enough parking spots or a lot that's too small for the store. I think Mom's appreciate convenience alltogether whether it's a drive-thru or online shopping.
