Cell Phone For In-Home Use | |||||||||||||||||
I have been considering switching my regular home phone to a cell phone (due to costs). I suggest having a cell phone base unit for the home that connects to the existing home wiring. This way I don't lose the convenience of my home phone, but get the cost savings of a cell phone.

I have been thinking the same thing for a long while. I bought a Visor Phone, hoping the PALM OS would allow an open enough platform to make that a reality. I did not have enought information / time / and skill to make it happen... It still would be great.
Absolutely required from the user’s POV, but I can understand why the cellular companies don’t like this idea (especially when business users will save that cost)
Why not connecting it to a VOIP (IP phone) if you are online. (Depending on your cost structure)
Additional point – as with wireless devices – how do you make sure the home base unit recognizes your home users’ cell pones and NOT serving your neighbor’s cell phone.
And what about your cell phone working over the home network at home and the office network at work :~)
i think of the same thing every time i hear mention of the new fad of using cell phones only, i think this is a highly marketable idea which must be persued.
I have called several cell phone manufacturers and none offer what we want here. I can't believe nobody has created it yet. There are so many advantages to having a regular size home phone that is actually a cell phone, more transmitter wattage, better sound quality both ways, the ability to connect an external antenna and the ability to connect all your other home phones into it. Many people I know have cancelled their home land line and use their cell phones exclusively so I'm sure there people out there who would be interested in this product, especially older people who have trouble dialing the little buttons and trying to deal with the functions of a small device.
Actually... search "Dock N Talk" this product has been available for a while now, works with hundreds of cell phone models. www.phonelabs.com/prd05.asp.
