House calls (whether pediatric or otherwise) appear to be very unpopular in the United States. In some European countries, doctors set aside half of their days to do house calls. I suspect doctors figured out that house calls are less profitable (fewer patients can be seen, additional traveling time and expense (gas, car), etc.), but I would be willing to compensate them for the added convenience.

Your point is well taken. I am a pediatrician in New York City and my practice is exclusively housecalls. My patients and their parents love it, and it allows me to be the kind of doctor I dreamed of being when I started med school, not the kind of doctor I thought I would have to be when I finished my residency.
