Why not have Open-Source web sites that reward contributors for success of content?

The Internet is the ultimate connection tool; but businesses have barely tapped its potential by primarily implementing traditional business models on it.

Take Forbes for instance. For the most part, the content on this site is the same content that's in the hardcopy with the exception of a few features like like this forum page. The only real difference is the delivery method. Wires vs. US Mail.

How much does Forbes spend on creating content? Maybe 50% of revenues? An open-source site could set aside this same 50% for it's content contributors. The web site could then use the other 50% of revenues to fund the back-office of developing and maintaining a site that facilitated open-source content uploads and traffic tracking.

Then the site could payout the 50% "content" pool to the content providers based on the traffic each contributor's content generates.
