I wonder if fiber optic based cameras distributed through out a cars exterior and interior that record accidents etc. would sell. Your camera could constantly record the last 10 minutes and if an airbag goes off it would save the video. Or if the car alarm goes of it could do the same. I envision a small hard drive hidden somewhere in the car being fed by small fiber optic cameras peeking out at the perimeter and interior of the car. Of course you could have the option of typing in a code and erasing the data if you ever want to. This would be good evidence (if allowable in court) if one where car jacked or the victim of an accident. If a crooked cop stops you it could save you from being the victim of evidence planting.

I would definitely buy one if it added less than say $400 to the price of the car. I had a similar idea a little over a year ago after being involved in an accident. A nice feature in addition to the system described might be uploading the last minute or so of video over a cell-phone network to a secure location after an accident.
Good idea. I also like that in Japan, your car alarm calls you on your cell phone, and sends you a live picture of the thief, and lets you yell at him or her on through the car audio system.
Digital cameras are cheap enough now they could be installed in the rearview mirror- one facing front, the other facing the interior of the car (or another pair pointing to the sides to give 360 coverage with more expensive models). Given enough memory, an hour's worth of video and sound could be stored on a single card. Add an accelerometer to stop the video a few minutes after a crash.Easily done for under $400. A device already exists to record data from the car, such as vehicle speed, etc.
Where can I buy one of this kits of camera or cameras for cars. I am realy interested in acquiring one or more.
If you know where or who sales them please contact me. Camilo Sanchez email:camilos@cargomaster.ws
Yes, the time has come for video justice.
Keying cars, crooked cops. In my vision, therewould just be a little memory chip, solid state USB devicewould be most coherent with existing integration, pluggedinside the glove box.
As well, i would hope that someone designs a coffee cup that isreally a 2 directional camera that's recording continuouslywith a USb memorychip... so that plastic jesus, or thatcoffee cup on the dashboard could allow people with oldercars to buy such a system and install it to prevent robbers and assholes from fucking with their cars.
I'm so suprised that this is not a common feature.
big brother is watching you :|
lol
i know now they have a recording "black box" in cars that records your speed, weather your seatbelt was on or off, and a bajillion other things for about ten mins with a rolling recorder... then from the time the airbags deploy, it frezes the recorder, so they can know if you were speeding or whatever.
