So I've taped a great documentary/game/whatever and watched it, and now want to share it. Rather than burn a CD or VCR Tape, why can't I hit a button that would send the program in file format or digitally back up to the satellite and send it to my friend's TiVo set?

Great idea. How about incorporating a writable DVD-Rom drive, so you could write the film to a disk and give it to your friend to play in his TIVO.

As you know, Tivo already has a feature to "save to VCR", so we're almost there...

I'm no expert, but it seems to me that allowing users to transmit (as oppose to receive only) on the satellite network would require a fairly huge capital investment.

SonicBlue had this feature for about 12 minutes. The broadcast industry put a qick knife in that idea for copyright reasons. I don't agree with them, seems like it would only increase viewership.

To make the idea simpler, I just want a way to save the file to my desktop. I already am running the tivo publisher, so the link between my tivo and comouter is already established.

It's not technology, it's business holding this idea back.
