This radio would have multibands, such as your basics: FM and AM, plus it would have weather, TV, Marine, Aviation. These other drequencies would be highly helpful in the everyday life of many people. For instance, I am a student pilot that is alway trying to get the latest weather and to see how busy the traffic pattern is at my airport, but just listening to air traffic control would be a great learning tool. Say you are driving home and are missing the beginning of your favorite TV show, or you and your family are going on your sailboat for a summer cruise and need to find the weather and any advisories. These handheld radios are very simple and inexpensive. I picked one up at radioshack for $29.99.
