I invented a communication device for just this purpose. The white light signals to the server that you are ready to order, the blue indicates a need for a refill and the green light lets your server know you are ready for the check. My company is called Servisensor. I have never been in the restaurant industry, but spent thousands of hours in business meetings in restaurants wondering why we have this totally inefficient method of service. So I fixed it!
